Vandaag staan de Hippels centraal, onze vaste rangeerdiesellocomotieven.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Als eerste doet de Hippel 516 (al in de nieuwe NS-huisstijl) eind juli 1977 haar intrede bij de VSM. Deze loc wordt van NS gehuurd ter vervanging van het motorrijtuig, welke op 7 juli onderweg (naar later blijkt: onherstelbaar) defect is geraakt. Met het motorrijtuig wordt gedurende enkele weken in het hoogseizoen een extra (tussen)slag gereden; hiermee is in 1976 een start gemaakt. Bijzonder om te melden is dat na het defect raken van het motorrijtuig de \u2018dieselslagen\u2019 werden vervangen door een stoomtrein; dat waren dus enkele weken met twee stoomtreinen tegelijk onderweg!<\/p>\n<p>Eigenlijk was het de wens van de VSM een 600 (grof gezegd: een 500, maar dan nog met een treinrem erbij) te kopen. 600-en waren echter op dat moment niet te koop, daarom bood NS ter compensatie de 516 als huurobject aan. Toen vervolgens alsnog \u2018koop\u2019 ter sprake kwam, kon dat niet de 516 zijn, want die stond nog niet voor afvoer te boek. Dat laatste betrof wel de 517: omstreeks augustus 1977 ging de 516 en kwam de 517 (nog in het NS-groen, dus optisch zeker geen slechte deal). Bijvoorbeeld in 1978 is de dienstregeling opgeknipt in vier slagen Apeldoorn-Loenen met stoomtractie en twee slagen Loenen-Dieren met dieseltractie. Er waren wel doorgaande rijtuigen, in Loenen werd de trein dus tweemaal daags geknipt dan wel gecombineerd.<\/p>\n<p>Altijd was de 517 een gewaardeerd werkpaard voor rangeren, werktreinen en extra (gezelschaps)treinen. Met een gezelschapstrein onderweg strandde de 517 op 1 juni 1984 tussen Eerbeek en Dieren. Daardoor blokkeerde deze trein de terugweg voor de laatste goederentrein uit Eerbeek; daarover is her en der wel een en ander geschreven.<\/p>\n<p>Overleg met de NS resulteerde in een ruil van de 517 tegen de geel-grijze 532. Dat alles speelde zich omstreeks juli\/augustus 1984 af. Van de diensten van de 517 werd in de tussentijd nog wel gebruik gemaakt, zij het dat de loc maar op \u00e9\u00e9n tractiemotor liep. De 532 werd door de VSM in Zutphen opgehaald, waarna op eigen kracht (dat kon toen nog) naar Apeldoorn-Beekbergen gereden werd. Van die dag, welke helaas niet exact te benoemen is, dateert bovenstaande foto. Als \u00e9\u00e9n van de eerste activiteiten bij de VSM sleepte de 532 de 517 naar Apeldoorn, vanwaar zij door NS naar Tilburg werd afgesleept.<\/p>\n<p>Als eerste 600 kwam in 1992 de 636 bij de VSM. Daarna volgden nog enkele 600-en, voor het merendeel toen al in dienst bij diverse spooraannemers (o.a. Stukton).
